New Driver Act
The facts show that you're most at risk of having an accident in the two years or so after you pass your test - one in five newly qualified drivers have a crash within their first six months of driving. Your licence will be taken away if you increase that risk by committing offences like speeding.
If you run up six or more penalty points, you'll get a letter telling you your licence is no longer valid. You must inform your insurance company immediately. You will have to apply for a new provisional licence to drive as a learner, take a retest, and pay for and sit the theory and practical tests. Once you've passed your test again, insurance costs will be much higher.
Penalty points count if you offend in the first two years after passing your test, even if a court does not give the sentence until after the probation period. Points awarded if you accept a Fixed Penalty Notice count towards the "6".
To carry on driving without a valid licence is an offence with a maximum penalty of £1,000.
Your licence is precious. Don't be a loser.
