Probably Alright to Drive?

Don't Be a Loser - Don't Drive Under the Influence

  • Nearly one in six of all deaths on the road involve drivers who are over the legal alcohol limit - 59 people died last year in Staffordshire alone.
  • It’s difficult to calculate how long alcohol takes to leave your system - but it’s at least half an hour plus 1 hour per unit of alcohol after you finish drinking.
  • Driving when you've taken drugs - whether prescribed medication or illegal - is just as dangerous as driving when you're drunk. It's also illegal.
  • The only safe option is not to drink or take drugs if you're driving. Never offer drink or drugs to a mate who is driving.

Don't Suffer the Morning After

  • If you've been out drinking you may still be affected by what you've drunk the next day. You may feel OK, but you may still be over the legal alcohol limit.
  • You could still lose your licence if you drive the next day when you're still over the legal alcohol level.
  • The effects of some drugs can also last for hours or even days - you could still be unsafe to drive the morning after.
